The information in this article applies to:
- SpeechKit 5
Symptoms
Running the Chant Serial Number Validation program did not appear to unlock the 30 day evaluation.
Cause
Prior to SpeechKit 5, the developer edition libraries could automatically unlock for 30-day evaluation on the first invocation. Windows Vista GAC blocks DLLs from accessing the system registry unless their application has proper manifest to prompt the user for permission. To support Vista, the unlock function was moved to the Serial Number Validation program.
All that is necessary to unlock the libraries is to run the Serial Number Validation program. However, if you enter any value as a serial number that is not valid serial number from a license registration. This terminates the evaluation period.
To avoid confusion about using the software before licensing it, a new Software Unlock Utility was developed and is the default program to run after installation. You can monitor your evaluation period by running the utility and highlighting the product to display the number of days remaining on the evaluation period. Click the OK button to dismiss the dialog.
Status
Fixed in SpeechKit 5 build 5.0.10.0 (Win32).
Component Formats Impacted
None.
